An excellent trip under ground:-) A large variety of stalagmites and stalactites, also featuring an excellent skeletal display of the extinct moa. Has a cafe too.

The last scene of The Hobbit was filmed on the mountainside. Caves are amazing and they offer a guided tour at a great price.

Ngarua Caves – (53km) Our family enjoyed taking a guided tour through the caves. It's a walk-through cave, no crawling through tight spaces! Adults $25 and child (5-15) $10.
